Minute Midges

The midge larva stage was once considered insignificant as a food source; experience fishing them midge larva over the last decade has shown me and a large percentage of anglers otherwise. Flies like the Minute Midge have provided anglers with great results through out the west and will be just as effective in your home waters. Not only are they fast to tie but the Midge Diamond Braid used for the abdomen will hold up under the abuse of forceps and teeth. During the larva stage, midges are most often ingested by fish as they drift along the bottom of the river. Since they are unable to swim these imitations are best fished along the bottom on a dead drift in eddies, riffles, and the pools below.
