Here in the Sacramento Valley, no one knows who originated the Wet Pinky.  But many know who made it the American Shad fly of choice of thousands of fishermen.  The late Dave Howard was a kind and gentle fly fishing guide who would take a "Pinky" out of his shirt pocket (not fly box) and give one to whoever was not catching fish.  Immediately the results would change.

 

The Wet Pinky is a chenille wrapped body fly with a pink head and thread base.  After many uses, the pink dyes start to bleed into the white chenille.  This bleeding effect is how the "Pinky" was named.  This fly is tied on a stout saltwater hook.
