Bernie's Bleeder is a lightweight fly for American Shad. It has a simple thread body, marabou tail, and bead chain eyes. It's called a "Bleeder" because hot pink from the marabou tied bleeds through the white thread body.
This is a favorite shad fly among the FFS staff and local guides. Because of its light weight, it moves around in the current. The hot pink marabou tail pulsates giving it something to attract fish towards it. The Bleeder is tied on a Targus 3908T hook, so it is super strong.
On another note, during the shad off season, take this fly to Alaska. It makes a great Sockeye pattern.
