A size 12 shad fly. Add this to the picture. It is tied on a Tiemco 107SP hook. That is a pricy hook for a shad fly. Who in his right mind would fish one? Fly Fishing Specialties owner, Bernie Halterbeck, would. This is his favorite fly to use when American Shad are sitting in low water conditions. Cast this with a lighter rod (say a 5 weight) and floating line and see for yourself.

 

This version uses a 1/8" black nickel Montana Fly tungsten bead.  This fly has the extra weight to get down to the desired depth quickly.
